The Police chief of Dubai, Dahi Khalfan Tamim, will try to arrest
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
the head of Mossad, Meir Dagan, for the murder of
the Hamas leader Mabhouh, found dead in a hotel in Dubai in January 2010.
Tamim said he would ask the public prosecutor in Dubai
to issue an arrest warrant on the two Israelis.
Mohammed Nassar, the right-hand man of a Hamas leader assassinated
in Dubai, confirmed Israeli claims that his boss supplied weapons
to Palestinian militants, according to an interview transcript
released 2.3.2010. The aide, Damascus-based Mohammed Nassar,
spoke to Hamas’ Al Aqsa radio in Gaza. Nassar’s boss,
Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, was killed Jan. 19 in a Dubai hotel room.
Al-Mabhouh and Nassar fled Gaza in the late 1980s, after capturing
and killing two Israeli soldiers. Nassar have described al-Mabhouh’s
action after one of the killings. “Aboul Abed (Mabhouh) stood on
the last body and raised his hands to the sky and said
‘Praise God who honored me with capturing and killing him.'”
Mohammed Nassar said that al-Mabhouh knew he was being pursued,
before he left for Dubai, “I feel like an army is chasing me.”
Nassar claimed that Arab spies helped Israel’s Mossad agency
track al-Mabhouh, but provided no details or evidence.
He said he believed those spies were sent either by the West Bank
government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
(Hamas’ Palestinian rival), or by the intelligence service of
either Jordan or Egypt. All three are deeply hostile to the
Islamic militant group.

“This is good news for those who be fighting terrorism that
a terrorist is killed – whether the murder happened in Dubai or in Gaza,”
said Tzipi Livni and continues:
“The whole world must support those who fight terrorism.
Any comparison between terrorists and those who fight
terrorists is immoral.”

15 new suspects in the assassination of a Hamas official at a Dubai luxury hotel, bringing the total number of people believed involved in the death to 26, the government said on Wednesday. Of the new suspects, six carried British passports, three held Irish documents, three Australian, and three French, the Dubai government’s media office said in an emailed statement. Dubai police also released passport photos and closed-circuit television footage of the suspects, and said two of them had left Dubai by boat for Iran. Dubai police also released credit card details of some of the suspects. Many were issued by the same US bank. Police believe more people could have been involved. Dubai has accused Israel of being behind the assassination.

The French passport holders are David Bernard LaPierre,
Melenie Heard and Eric Rassineux, while
the Australian passport holders were identified as Bruce Joshua Daniel,
Nicole Sandra Mccabe and Adam Korman.

A heated debated arose in the Knesset House Committee on Tuesday,
following a request to hold a plenum session on the “forged passports affair”.
Member of Knesset Talab El-Sana (United Arab List – Ta’al) asked if
the Knesset was run by the Mossad, while MK Carmel Shama (Likud)
called the assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh
a “mitzvah”.

On January 19, at around 9 A.M., the 50-year-old
Mabhouh boarded Emirates flight EK 912 in Damascus,
bound for Dubai, where he landed at 2:30 P.M.
The local authorities were unaware of his arrival,
because he entered the emirate under an assumed identity.
Mabhouh apparently reached his nearby hotel,
the al-Bustan Rotana, by taxi.
Also using a false identity,
he checked into room 130,
on the first floor of the 275-room hotel.
He had asked for a room with no balcony and
sealed windows, so no one could enter.
He deposited a case with documents in the hotel safe.
He spent about an hour in his room,
where he showered and changed clothes.
At around 4:30 or 5 P.M. he left the hotel.
Hamas, which certainly knows who Mabhouh met,
has not released this information.
He apparently had dinner outside the hotel,
as the hotel has no record of a meal or
drinks in any of its restaurants.
During these critical hours,
Mabhouh apparently was being tailed.
He is believed to have returned to his room
at around 9 P.M. apparently Mabhuh opened his door
and let in his assailants,
since there were no signs of forced entry.
His wife believes that the assassins
were waiting for him in the room,
and were informed by his tails
that Mabhouh was on his way up.
At 9:30 P.M.,
Mabhouh’s wife called his mobile phone.
There was no answer,
and his wife believes that by this time
he was already dead.
After Mabhouh’s body was discovered the next morning,
January 20, it was taken for examination.
Burns from a stun gun was said to be found under his ear,
in his groin and on his chest.
Pathologists discovered his nose bled before death;
blood was found on a pillow
they believe was placed over his
nose and mouth to suffocate him.

The January 19th assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh look like a very professional operation: Security footage of the killers’ movements during the afternoon, released by police in Dubai yesterday, underlines the professionalism of the operation. The group switched hotels several times and wore disguises including false beards and wigs, while surveillance teams rotated in pairs through the hotel lobby, never hanging around for too long and paying for everything in cash.

Folliard and another member of the party carrying an Irish passport in the name of Kevin Daveron were operating as spotters on the second floor of the hotel when the murder was committed. Both switched hotels that afternoon and dressed smartly to pose as hotel staff. The bald Daveron donned a dark wig and glasses, while Folliard appears to have removed a blonde wig to reveal dark hair.

Throughout the operation, none of the suspects made a direct call to any another. However, Dubai police traced a high volume of calls and text messages between three phones carried by the assassins and four numbers in Austria where a command centre had apparently been established.
To co-ordinate their movements on the ground, the team used discreet, sophisticated short-range communication devices as they tracked their victim.

Passport tied to Dubai murder was not forged
German intelligence services investigating the assassination of
Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai have found
that one of the suspected members of the assassination team
carried a genuine German passport.
Dubai police and Hamas have blamed Israel’s Mossad spy agency
for the killing.
According to the findings of German federal investigators, in June
2009 an Israeli man named Michael Bodenheimer –
who shares the name of an alleged member of the Dubai hit squad –
came to immigration officials in Cologne with the pre-World War II
address of his grandparents.
Bodenheimer acquired German citizenship on the basis of this data.
After his name was listed as one of the suspected members of the
Dubai assassination squad, Bodenheimer, who lives in Bnei Brak
and is of American origin, said that he did not know how his identity
was stolen.
Dubai authorities have said 11 European-passport holders were
involved in the assassination, and last week published their names
and photographs. The list included six people with British passports,
three with Irish passports and one each from France and Germany.
Bodenheimer, who immigrated to Israel from the United States more
than 20 years ago, studies at a kollel, a yeshiva for married men.
He said he was astounded to see the UAE list contained his name,
supposedly belonging to a German citizen.
“At first we didn’t understand what everyone was talking about,”
Bodenheimer’s daughter said. “The picture that was published doesn’t
look like him at all. He busies himself with Torah study,” she said,
adding that he holds no citizenship other than Israeli and American.
A Hamas legislator on Saturday said that Mahmoud al-Mabhouh
put himself at risk by booking his trip through the Internet.
The Hamas legislator, Salah Bardawil, also told a news conference
Saturday that Mabhouh took additional risk by informing his Gaza family
by telephone at which hotel he would be staying.
Mabhouh’s family on Saturday denied that he acted recklessly.
Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said Saturday that
there was no evidence tying Israel to the killing of Mabhouh at
a luxury Dubai hotel on January 20.
Britain, France and Germany all share our interests
in the battle against global terror. Therefore,
there will be no crisis. Instead our relations will continue to deepen.
Also on 20.2.2010, Arabic-language daily newspaper Al Bayan reported
that Dubai police had new evidence implicating Israel’s intelligence agency
Mossad in the assassination of the Hamas commander, which included
credit card payments and suspects’ phone records.
“Dubai police have information confirming that the suspects purchased
travel tickets from companies in other countries with credit cards carrying
the same names we have publicized [in the passports],”
Al Bayan quoted Dubai police chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim as saying.
The newspaper did not provide further details.
Meanwhile, a Qatar news agency reported that Egyptian delegates
promised Dubai officials that they would try to persuade Israel to
officially apologize for the assassination of Mabhouh in their country.
Egyptian diplomats told Al-Arab newspaper that Dubai has asked Egypt
to formally reprimand Israel for the hit.
Dubai police last week released photographs of 11 of the suspects.
Interpol said on Thursday it had issued “red notices” for the suspects’
arrest in any of its 188 member countries.
U.K.’s Europe Minister Chris Bryant says a total of eight forged U.K.
passports were used in the Dubai slaying of a top Hamas operative,
two more than had been previously disclosed.

The Dubai authorities claim there were two teams: one carried out surveillance of the target, while the other—which appears to be a group of younger men, at least as far as the camera shots show—carried out the killing.
Contrary to reports, the squad did not break into Mabhouh’s hotel room, nor did they knock on the door. They entered the room using copies of keys they had somehow acquired.
